Street Maintenance

Pothole Patching

The City purchased a machine, called the Total Patcher, in 2011 that we pull behind a dump truck loaded with 3/8 inch clean chips. We invested about $100,000 in the machine including the 3,000-gallon tank that holds the emulsion. The Total Patcher is used on streets that have potholes, rough patches, and cracks.

However, it's important to remember that this is not a fix, but rather a temporary fix until something more permanent can be done. The Total Patcher process starts by blowing out the hole/crack to get out all of the debris, then we alternate putting in layers of tar and 3/8" clean chips in the hole/crack until it is filled to the top. So far, we really like what we see.
