Douglas Flournoy moved to Fairfield in 1994 after accepting a position at Indian Hills Community College where he serves as a Professor of Chemistry. Dr. Flournoy earned his B.S. in Chemistry (ACS certified) from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry (minor in Chemistry) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. Taking an active role in our community since first moving here, Flournoy served on the Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors for over twelve years. There he made significant contributions as president, vice-president, and chair of finance committee, and on the administrative salaries, negotiations, and business relations committees. A founding member of the Fairfield First Fridays Art Walk Board of Directors, he served for seven years, and as Treasurer he put together the first proposed budget for the city to consider when deciding on funding for the Art Walk. He has been very active in the Rotary Club of Fairfield. A member since 2001 Doug served as President in 2004 and in that year he spearheaded the founding of the Interact Club of Fairfield, a service club for high school students, with the intention of bringing together students from both high schools to work together in one organization. Doug is very active in grant writing for the Rotary Club and is responsible for completing over ten Rotary Foundation grants in support of local community projects since 2005. He is also active in the international arena, having participated as the Rotary Club’s primary contact on over ten international humanitarian matching grant projects in Turkey, South Africa, Colombia, Nepal, and Haiti. Doug enjoys living in Fairfield and is always impressed with how much this city has to offer.
